
The photographs show Warhol’s interest in a wide range of subjects, as well as his connection with the people and places he captured with his camera. This transformative donation of 156 original Warhol Polaroids and gelatin silver prints to the museum’s permanent collection enables deeper engagement with his work and a more nuanced understanding of his artistic practice. Established the year before to mark the Foundation’s 20 th anniversary, the program made available more than 28,500 photographs to more than 180 educational institutions in the United States. In 2008 the RMA received 156 photographs from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts’ Photographic Legacy Program. Received in 20 respectively, these works show the artist’s profound commitment to his subjects and to photography and graphic media. Among them is an impressive group of photographs and prints by Andy Warhol (1928 - 1987).
